[The Gypsie Laddie-O] "The Gypsy Laddie"   Sung by Mrs. Jane Morris, Harriston, Va., October 16, 1935.

1 Is there any gypsies in the north
That's bound unto Sweet Borzey-O?
They'll sing you such a beautiful song,
It'll charm the heart of a lady-O

2. It was late in the night when the Captain came home
Inquiring for his honey-O!
The servant Miss replied to him:
She's gone with the Gypsie laddie-O!

3. Saddle up, saddle up, my milk-white steed,
Saddle up, saddle up, in-a hurry-O!
I'll ride all night till the broad day-light
And overtake my honey-O.

4 He rode to the east and he rode to the west,
He rode unto Sweet Borzey-O!
And there he spied his own true love
A-going with the Gypsie laddie O!

5 Come back, come back, my own true love,
Come back, come back, my honey-O!
I'll lock you up in a chamber so high
Where the Gypsies can't come nigh you-O!

6 I won't come back, and I shan't come back,
I won't come back my husband-O!
For I'd rather have a kiss from the Gypsie's lips
Than all your land and money-O!

7 How can you leave your house and lands?
How can you leave your husband-O?
How can you leave your sweet little babe?
To go with the Gypsie laddie-O?

8 I can leave my house and land
And I can leave my husband-O!
And I can leave sweet little babe,
To go with the Gypsie laddie-O!

9 She hadn't been traveling but a very short
Before she spent all her money-O!
She-spent the gold rings off her fingers,
And the breast pins of her bosom-O-!

10 It's once she was used to a new feather bed,
And a servant to her parlor-Ol
It's now she's come to a bed of hay
With the Gypsies all around her.
