Black Jack David- Contributed by Oliver Ellis; Western, NC; circa 1936.

Black Jack David come riding through town,
Singing loud and merry;
He made them hills and mountains ring,
He charmed the heart of a lady.

How old are you my pretty miss
How old are you my honey?
She laughed and said with a Tee, hee hee,
"I will be sixteen next Sunday."

He put on his old gray boots
And she put on her high heel shoe(s),
And they both rode off together.

It was late when the land lord came,
Inquiring for his lady;
Somebody saddle my gray. . .
