[Gypsia All Daises] - Gibson (VA) 1936 Scarborough D
[My title. From Scarborough, A Songcatcher; 1937, probably collected circa 1931 (see Bronson).
This is the second version by Addie Gibson, who supplied the text which Scarborough printed as received- mistakes and all. I've supplied corrections in parentheses.
Scarborough says about stanza 1, last line: Perhaps this last, statement means "You'll never want for money. In the third line he may be reassuring her as to any any fear she may have that he is carrying concealed weapons to avenge his wrongs.
Scarborough is way off on this one. This stanza is borrowed from the Pretty Little Miss (Seventeen Come Sunday) songs and all it means is he's got gold and she'll never want for money. See also The House Carpenter for a similar type of seduction.
