Black Jack Davey- Sung by Guy Jones of Conway, Ark. July 13, 1965. Mr. Jones learned this song from Carol Stuart of Idabelle, Ark. who learned it from her mother who learned it from her mother.

Black Jack Davey came over the hill
Singing, sing so-poly,
He sang so loud, he made the hills roar,
He charmed the heart of a lady;
And he charmed the heart of a lady.

Come go with me you pretty young miss,
Come go with me, my honey,
I swear by the pistols hanging from my side,
 You'll never want for money;
You'll never want for money.

She pulled on her sky-blue glove,
All made of Spanish leather;
 She gave to Davey her little white hand,
And went down the  road together,
And went down the road together.

When her young man came home that night
 And asked for his young lady,
The servants made just one reply,
She's gone down the road with Black Jack Davey,
Gone with Black Jack Davey.

Come saddle my coal black mare,
These roads are not so speedy;
I'll ride all day and I'll ride all night,
I'll overtake my lady,
I'll overtake my lady.

Well he rode all day and he rode all night,
And the roads were not so speedy,
And there he spied his love
In the arms of Black Jack Davey,
In the arms of Black Jack Davey.

How can you forsaken your house and home,
How can you forsaken your baby,
How can you forsaken your own true love
And go with the Black Jack Davey?
And go with the Black Jack Davey?

Very well I can forsaken my house and home,
Very well I can forsaken my baby,
Very well I can forsaken my own true love,
And go with the Black Jack Davey,
And go with the Black Jack Davey.

She pulled off her sky-blue gloves,
All made of Spanish leather
And waved to him her little white hand
And said "Fare you well forever."
And said "Fare you well forever."

Last night you slept on a warm feather bed,
Beside me and the baby,
Tonight you'll sleep on the cold, cold ground,
In the arms of Black Jack Davey,
In the arms of Black Jack Davey.
