B. Dark-Eyed Gypsy-- Sung by Mrs. Wilson Northcott at Gaultois, Hermitage Bay, 22nd July, 1930.

Seven dark-eyed gypsies sitting in a row,
They sang so sweet and so very low,
They sang so sweet and so very very sweet,
They charmed the heart of the lady O.

The lady was sitting in her window so high,
Enjoying of her children three;
Some jealousy thought came into her mind,
She would follow the dark-eyed gypsy O'

The old farmer came home in the middle of the night,
Enquiring for his lady o.
I'm afraid, I'm afraid, cried the gay gaging [sic] girl,
That she followed the dark-eyed gypsy O.

Hurry up, hurry up and get my team,
With a sword and pistol by my side;
With a sword and pistol by my side,
I wilt follow the dark-eyed gypsy O.

He rode East and he rode West,
Till he came up to an old farmer,
Saying: Farmer, tell me, tell me true,
Have You seen the dark-eyed gypsy O?

Ride on, ride on, the old farmer cried,
Till You come to yonder valley O;
The prettiest girl that ever I did see
In the arms of the dark-eyed gypsy O'

Last night you were lying on a soft down bed
With a sheet so white as the linen O;
Tonight you are lying on the hard cold ground
In the arms of the dark-eyed gypsy O.
