NOTES: "Dat Same Train" or "That Same Train" is a title of a spiritual taken from the 1933 book, Befo' De War Spirituals by Edward Avery McIlhenny. This is a version of the popular "This Train Is Bound For Glory."  I don't have McIlhenny's lyrics but I do have lyrics for "That Same Train" from Negro Songs from Georgia by Melinger Henry. "Same Train" also appears in Odum and Johnson.

THAT SAME TRAIN- Negro Songs from Georgia- Melinger Henry from Journal of American folklore;  American Folklore Society - 1931

1. That same train that a-carried my mother,
That same train that a-carried my mother,
That same train that a-carried my mother,
That same train will be back tomorrow.

2. That same train that a-carried my sister,
That same train that a-carried my sister,
That same train that a-carried my sister,
That same train will be back tomorrow.

[for additional verses substitute- father; children etc]

SAME TRAIN- Odum and Johnson

I'm talkin 'bout the same train
Same train that carried my father,
Same train.

Same train that carried my father,
Same train.
Same train will be back tomorrow,
Same train.

Same train will be back tomorrow,
Same train.
Well you better be ready
Same train.
