NOTES: "Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit"  is a spitiual recorded by Luther Magby for the OKeh label in 1927. Magby only made one 78, and not many copies exist. It consists of mumbly and gruff vocals set to organ and tambourine. The instrumental coda sounds like somebody tap-dancing along to a carousel pump organ.

Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit- Luther Magby 1927

If you cannot- pray like Daniel
If you cannot- moan like John,
Brother, you will know the love of Jesus,
Cause I say, "He died for us all."

CHORUS: Blessed are the poor in spirit,
Children of the heavenly King,
We shall all wear a crown in glory,
Oh when on earth, our work is done.

If you cannot give a million,
If you can give a widow's mite,
For the least you do, on earth for Jesus,
It is prescious in His sight.
