NOTES: "A Little Talk with Jesus" or "Little Talk with Jesus" is a traditional spiritual that is not related to Doane's hymn with the same title. "A Little Talk with Jesus" was published by John Work in 1907 and again in 1940 with an additional version added in his "American Negro Songs". The song is related to "Just a Little Talk with Jesus" by Cleavant Derrick. Derrick writes original verses and a chorus for the traditional song and keeps the famous traditional tag, "Just a little talk with Jesus makes it right."
"A Little Talk with Jesus" was recorded by Ernest Phillips and His Congregation in 1928 and also by the Majestic Quartet in 1939. In 1912 Joe Hill wrote a parody of Doane's song, titled "John Golden and the Lawrence Strike" that appeared in The Big Red Song Book [Green, Archie]
More recent gospel groups like Kansas City Soul Revivers cut a version titled "It's Alright" on Dootone in 1956 (See example of similar lyrics by Isaelite Travelers below)
The Stanley Brother's covered "Just a little Talk" which is Derrick's 1933 gospel song. Below is the chorus of a version by the Israelite Travelers in 1954:
