This is also recorded in Solomon, Honey in the Rock: The Ruby Pickens Tartt Collection (p. 41; words only). The words are substantially the same, though the stanzas 2 and 3 are reversed in order. The note says, "Dock Reed's version appears both on the Library of Congress recordings and the Courlander series." The latter, I think, is "Dead and Gone" (sung by Vera Hall & Dock Reed, in 1950) on Folkways FE4418, FA2691 (Gospel Records 1943-1969, vol. 1, p. 335), which I haven't. Songs titled "All the Friends I Got Is Gone" by Blind Jesse Harris and "Dead and Gone" by Elsie Jenkins were both recorded in 1937 for the Library of Congress, but seem to be unissued (Blues and Gospel Records 1890-1943, Oxford).
The earliest version appears in the 1922 JOAFL in the article "Negro Spirituals from the Far South" by Perkins.
