NOTES: “The Bible's True,” was recorded by Uncle Dave Macon in 1926. Macon probably from learned the song from African-American songsters.  The chorus is traditional but the verses of Macon's song refers to "evolution" being taught in schools and is a comic reaction to the Scopes Trial in Tennessee, 1925.

See also "Devil's No Relation At All" in this collection for another song about "evolution" and the Scopes Trial.

[Long banjo solo "Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown"- stops playing]

[Spoken] Now people that was, "Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown." Now I don't believe in evolution nor revolution, but when it comes to the good old bible, from Genesis to Revelation I'm right there.

[sings] Evolution teaches man came from a monkey,
I don't believe no such a thing, in the days of a week of Sundays.

Chorus: For the bible's true oh yes, I believe it,
I've seen enough, and I can prove it.
What you say, what you say,
Bound to be that way.

[spoken] Lord, yes!

God made the world and everything's in it.
He made man perfect and the monkey wasn't in him.
What you say, what you say,
Bound to be that way.

 [spoken] Lord, yes! [solo break]

I'm no evolutionist that wants the world to see,
There ain't no man that's anywhere born, make a monkey out of me.

Chorus

[spoken] Now ain't that right! [solo break]

Chorus

[spoken] You know I'm right! [solo break]

God made the world and then he made man,
Woman for his helpmate, beat that if you can.

Chorus

[spoken] Now you know it's so! [solo break]

God made the world and everything's in it.
He made man perfect and the monkey wasn't in him.
What you say, what you say,
Bound to be that way. [spoken] Lord, yes!

 [solo break]
