In yonder town where I did dwell,
There was a fair maid dwellin',
She was a youth and went around
And her name was Barb'ry Allen

It was all in the month of May,
When green buds were a-swellin'
Sweet William came from a western city
And courted Barb'ry Allen.

That was  in the month of June
When all green flowers were bloomin'
Sweet William on his deathbed lay,
For the love of Barb'ry Allen.

He sent a note unto the town
Where Barb'ry was a dwellin',
Said "Come to me my darling girl,
[If your name be Barb'ry Allen.] [1]
