The Wife Wrapt in Wether's Skin- Jepson (UT) 1947 Hubbard B

Ballads and Songs from Utah- Hubbard 1961

B. "The Wife Wrapt in Wether's Skin." Sung by James Jepson of Hurricane, Aug. 71, 1947. Second and fourth lines is repeated in subsequent stanzas.

Johnny came whistling home from the plow
Jinny come gentle Rosemarie,
Said he, "My dear wife, is my dinner ready now?"
Till the dew flies over the green valley.

She says, "You lingering, low, lived elf,
if you want any dinner just get it yourself."

Johnny went whistling out to the barn;
he met a fat wether and down he come.

He placed the skin upon his wife's back,
And with two sticks he went whickety whack.

"I'll tell my parents and my kin
That you beat upon me till I'm blue within."

"You may tell your parents and your kin,
That I beat upon nothing but my sheepskin."

Johnny came whistling home from the plow,
Said he, "My dear wife, is my supper ready now?"
The table was set with dishes so neat.
She says, "My dear husband, just sit down and eat."
