Lord Bateman- Mrs. Betty Mace (Perryville, Ohio) c. 1939 Eddy

1. Now come, my friend let's make a bargain,
For seven long years let it stand.
That you'll not wed no other woman,
And I'll not wed no other man."

2. When the seven long years were gone and ended,
And seven long years drew at their end,
She gathered all her finest clothing,
Saying, "Now I'll go and seek my friend."

3. She sailed east and she sailed west,
She sailed till she came to the British shore,
And she neither. . .
Till she came to Lord Bateman's door.

4. "Is this Lord Bateman's palace,
Or is the Lord himself within?"
"Yes, fair lady, him and his new bride
Have just entered in."

5. "Go tell him to bring me a glass of water,
And a glass of his wine so strong;
And ask him if he remembers the lady
Who set him free from his iron bonds."
