Katharine Jaffray- Hudson (NS) pre1950 Creighton C

[Creighton's title. From Traditional Songs from Nova Scotia, by Creighton and Senior, 1950.

This fragment is based on the broadside, Squire of Edinburgh. Clearly this is not a local title; the local title should be something like: He Saddled Double.

C. "Katharine Jaffray." - Sung by Mrs. Dyson Hudson Country Harbour, NS; pre1950 Creighton C

1. He saddled double on a milk white steed,
And a single man rode he
He had not met his bonny bride[1]
As he rode along the way.

2. "Have you been east, have you been west,
Have You been out all day?
Or have you seen my bonny bride
As we rode along the way?"

3. "Yes, I've been east, yes, I've been west,
Yes, I've been out all day,
And I have not seen your bonny bride
As I rode along the way.

1. Alternative lines 1st stanza:

Until he came to the marriage house
Where the wedding was to be.
