The Poor Soldier- sung by George Edwards of Vermont in 1934, Flanders H

The first one he came to, he ran him through amain,
The next one he came to, he served him the same.
"Let us flee," cried the rest, "or we surely shall be slain,
For to fight this gallant soldier is altogether in vain."

"Stop, stop," cried the old man, "you make my blood run cawld, [1]
Thou art welcome to my daughter and twelve thousand pounds in gawld,"
"Fight on," said the lady; "that portion is too sma'
And if thou kill the old man then we can have it a'."
