[Fragment from Ancient Ballads, 1963, Flanders.

C. Robin Hood and the Pedlar. Recorded as recalled by George Edwards in Burlington, VT. This was known in his early childhood as sung by his grandfather, a Yorkshireman who fought in the Battle of Waterloo. H. H. F., Collector; October 16, 1934.

There chanced to be a pedlar bold
And bold he chanced to be,
He carried his pack all on his back,
He went tripping o'er the lea.

He chanced to meet two troublesome men
And troublesome men they proved to be,
The one of them was Robin Hood
