"Little Mattie" sung by Pleaz Mobley, Argonaut recording, private dubbing.

1 One low, one low, one holiday,
The lowest day in the year,
Little Mattie went down to the church that day,
The Holy Word to hear.

2 The first came in was a gay lady,
The next came in was a girl,
The next came in was Lord Daniel's wife,
The fairest of them all.

3 "I know you are Lord Daniel's wife
By the rings you doth wear."
"But if I am Lord Daniel's wife,
Lord Daniel's not at home."

4. Her little foot-speed was standin' by,
An' he heard ev'ry word they said.
"I must warn my master," the little speed said,
And he took to his heels and fled.

5. He ran, he ran to the waters wide
And he knelt down and swam.
He swam, he swam to the other side
And he took to his heels and ran.

6. He ran, he ran to Lord Daniel's gate
And tingled at the ring.
No one so ready as Lord Daniel himself
To rise and lot him in.

7. "What news, what news, my little footspeed?
What news have you brought to me?
Are any 'f my castles tearin' down,
Or is my men astray?"

8. "There're none of your castles tearin' down,
There're none of your men astray:
Little Manic's at home in your own house-door,
In the bed with your gay lady."
