Jimmy Loud- Collected by Mercedes Steely from Mrs. Nora Johnson Ebenezer, NC, April, 1935. Transcribed Mercedes Steely.

"Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud," he cried,
"Pray hold your hands for a while,
I think I see my father a-coming;
He is riding so many miles.

"I've neither brought you gold, my son,
Nor I've neither bought you free,
But I have come for to see you hang
A11 under this gallows tree."

"Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud," he cries,
"Pray hold your hands for a while,
I think I see my mother a-coming;
She is riding so many miles.

"Oh, have you brought me gold,
Or have you bought me free,
Or have you come for to see me
All under this gallows tree?"

"Oh, have you brought me gold,
or have you bought me free,
Or have you come for to see me
All under this gallows tree?"

"I've neither brought you gold, my son,
Nor I've neither bought you free,
But I have come for to see You hang
All under this gallows tree."

"Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud," he cries,
"Pray hold your hands for a while,
I think I see my brother a-coming;
He is riding so many miles."

"Oh, have you brought me gold, dear brother,
Or have you bought me free,
Or have you come for to see me hang
All under this gallows tree?"

"I've neither brought you gold, my brother,
Nor I've neither bought you free,
But I have come for to see you hang
All under this gallows tree."

"Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud," he cries,
"Pray hold your hands for a while,
I think I see my sister a-coming;
She is riding so many miles.

"Oh, have you brought me gold, dear sister,
Or have you bought me free,
Or have you come for to see me hang
All under this gallows tree?"

"I've neither brought you gold, dear brother,
Nor I've neither bought you free,
But I have come for to see You hang,
And hang-ed[1] you shall be."

"Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud, Jimmy Loud," he cries,
"Pray hold your hands for a while,
I think I see my true-love a-coming;
She's been riding so many miles.

"Oh, have you brought me gold, true-love,
And have you bought me free,
Or have you come for to see me hang
All under this gallows tree?"

"Oh, have brought you gold, true-love,
And  have bought you free,
And have come for to take You home
From under this gallows tree."
