The Dragoon and the Lady- sung by Mr Charles Turner at Bridgwater, Somerset on August 15, 1904.

Its of a jolly light dragoon so quickly you shall hear
He married a rich lady and her beauty shone most clear
He married a rich lady and her beauty shone most  clear
And it was to prove her ruin as you shall quickly hear.

Her father was a lord, a lord of high renown
If she should marry a soldier, it would pull his honour down
For it's your birth and my birth I'm sure it wont agree
So take it as a warning my light Dragoon said she

No warning, love, no warning, no warning intend to take
I'll either marry or die love, and it's all for your sweet sake
Soon as she heard him say those words made her tended heart to bleed
Together they went to church and got married by speed.

As they were returning home advancing back again
I'm afraid says the lady as they were returning home
- - - - - - - - - advancing up the hill
Here comes your father's son and all his armed men

He drewed his sword and carbine, he made his bones to rattle
And the lady held the horse while the Dragoon fought the battle
O stop your hand o stop your hand, the lady's father cried
And you shall have my daughter and 10 thousand pound besides.

Fight on, fight on the lady cried, that portion is but small
O stop your hand, O stop your hand & you shall have it all
Come all you pretty maidens that have got gold in store
You should never despise a soldier, although he's low and poor.
