C. Captain Wedderburn's Courtship- Sung by Ralph Hoskins, Cape Sable Island.
Melody transcribed by Margaret Sargent
[music]

1 Three questions I will give to you if you can answer all,
Then you and I in the bed shall lie and you lie next to the wall.

2. For breakfast you must cook for me [is] a bird without a bone, [1]
For dinner you must cook for me [is] a cherry without a stone,
For supper you must cook for me [is] a bird without a call
Then you and in the bed shall lie and you lie next to the wall.

3. Oh, when the bird is in its egg,
I'm sure it has no bone,
And when the cherry is in its bloom,
I'm sure it has no stone,
My father's got some gentle doves
Who will come without a call
Then you and I in the bed shall lie
And you lie next to the wall.

My Footnote:

1. My brackets around [is]. Something seems amiss, perhaps the line should be:

For breakfast [what] you must cook for me is a bird without a bone,
