15 THE BAILIFF'S DAUGHTER OF ISLINGTON

Bailey's Daughter of Islinkington- Sung by Mrs. Alice Sims at Pass Island, 24th July 1930.

It's of a youth and a well belov-ed youth,"
It's of a squire's son,
And he courted Bailey's own daughter dear,
As she lived in sweet Islinkington.[1]

As she was going up the street
And he came riding down,
Where she took his horse all by the bridle side
And she swung herself right round.

O where are you going, my fair pretty maid?
O where are you going? cried she.
I am in search of the Bailey's daughter dear
As she lived in sweet Islinkington.

The Bailey's daughter of Islinkington,
She's dead and don't you know,
The Bailey's daughter of Islinkington,
She's been dead, sir, this long time ago.

If Bailey's daughter is now dead,
I'll sell my milk-white steed,
And I'll go to some foreign country
Where no one shall never, never know.

The Bailey's daughter is not dead,
She still remains alive,
And here she is all by the bridle side,
All ready to make you her bride.

How glad was he when he heard of this,
How glad was he to stand,
And how well he knew it was Bailey's daughter dear
With the private mark she had on her hand.
