25 - THE MODESTY ANSWER
(Seventeen Come Sunday)

1. "How old are you, my pretty little miss,
How old are your my honey?
She answ€ered me in a modesty way,
"I'll  be sixteen next Sunday,
I 'll be sixteen next Sunday."

2. "Let's you and I marry, my pretty little Miss,
Let's you and I marry, my honey."
She answered me in a modesty way,
"Run and I'll ask mama,
Run and I'll ask mama."

3. "What did she say, my pretty little miss,
What did she say my honey?"
She answered me in a modesty way,
"She said she could not spare€ me,
She said she could not spare me€."

4. "What will you do, my pretty little miss,
What will you do, my honey?"
She answered me in a modesty way,
"Run, away next Sunday,
Run away next Sunday."

5 "Where will you go, my pretty little Miss,
Where will you go, my honey?"
She answered me in a modesty way,
"Go to North Carolina,
Go to North Carolina."

6. "What will we eat, my pretty little Miss,
What will we eat, my honey?"
She answered me in a modesty way,
"We'll eat cream and honey,
We'll eat cream and honey."

7. "I have lost all hopes of your
She answered me in a modesty way,
So farewell forever,
So farewell forever."
