15A . THE GOLDEN VANITY
(The Sweet Trinity, Child, No. 286)

Communicated by Miss Catherine E. Sutherland, Hindman, Knott County, Kentucky, December 20, 1925.

1. There was a little ship in tho South Amerikee,
That went by the name of The Weeping Willow Tree,
As she sailed upon the low and the Lonesome low,
As she sailed upon the lonesome sea.

2. There was another ship in the North Amerikee,
She wont by the name of The Golden Silveree,
As she sailed upon the low and the Lonesome low,
As she sailed upon the lonesome sea.

3. "Oh captain, oh Captain, what'll you give me,
If I sink the ship of The Weeping Willow Tree?"

4. "I'll give you gold and I'll give to you fee,
I'll give you my daughter and married you shall be."

5. He bowed upon his back and away swam he,
Till he came to the boat of The Weeping Willow Tree,

6. Some had hats, some had caps,
And they put them in to stop the water gaps.

7. He turned upon his back and away swam he,
Till he came to the ship of The Golden Silveree.

8. Oh captain, oh captain, pray take me on board,
For I have been just as good as my word."

9. I know that you've been just as good as your word,
But never more will I take you on board."

10. If it wasn't for the love that I have for your girl
I'd do unto you as I did unto them."

11. He turned upon his back and down went he,
Down, down, down to the bottom of the sea.

Note: The part of the song left out between stanzas five and six tells how he bored holes in the bottom of the ship.
