I Died for Love- As sung by Dale Klugg, Alford, Arkansas on July 11, 1969

VERSE 1
I went upstairs to go to bed
An' nothing to my Mother said
But my Mother saw a tear
And said, what trouble my Daughter dear.

VERSE 2
O, dear Mother you need not know
The pain an' sorrow, grief that flows
Your heart is broken an' your life is through
When you love someone that don't love you.

VERSE 3
There is a strange house in this town
Where he walks right in an' sets right down
He takes another girl on his knee
And he tells her things, he won't tell me.

VERSE 4
Must I go bound while he goes free
Must I love a man that don't love me
Alas, alas, it'll never be
Till apples grow on cherry trees.

VERSE 5
Go dig my grave both wide an' deep
Place marble stones at my head an' feet
And upon my breast a snowy white dove
To show the world that I died for love.
