NOTES: "Canaan’s Land" with word's and music by E. J. King, 1844 appeared in the firs edition of BF white's Sacred Harp. In 1991 Edition it's listed as "101t Canaan’s Land." Curiouly there is no mention of Canaan in the song in the 1991 Edition although
there are 55 occurrences, 32 verses, 35 songs that mention Canaan. In the Cooper edition the second verse mentions "Canaan's land." I've added that to the verse from the 1991 edition.

This should not be confused with "Canaan Land" or any of the other Canaan entries.

101t Canaan’s Land-Words and Music- E. J. King, 1844
Meter: Common Meter Double (8,6,8,6,8,6,8,6)

Oh for a breeze of heav’nly love
To waft my soul away
To that celestial world above,
Where pleasures ne’er decay.
Eternal Spirit, deign to be
My pilot here below,
To steer through life’s tempestuous sea,
Where stormy winds do blow.

From rocks of pride on either hand,
From quicksands of despair,
O guide me safe to Canaan’s land,
Through ev’ry latent snare.
Anchor me in that port above,
On that celestial shore,
Where dashing billows never move,
Where tempests never roar.

Other Sacred Harp songs are sometimes called Canaan's Land:

267 Parting Friends (First) Tune: John G. McCurry, 1842 Words: unknown
Meter: 9s,8s Double (9,8,9,8,9,8,9,8)

Farewell, my friends, I’m bound for Canaan,
I’m trav’ling through the wilderness;
Your company has been delightful,
You, who doth leave my mind distressed.

I go away, behind to leave you,
Perhaps never to meet again,
But if we never have the pleasure,
I hope we’ll meet on Canaan’s land.

87 Sweet Canaan- Tune: E. J. King, 1844; Words: Mead’s General Collection, 1807 Meter: Long Meter Half (8,8)

Oh who will come and go with me?
I am bound for the land of Canaan.
I’m bound fair Canaan’s land to see,
I’m bound for the land of Canaan.

Chorus: Oh Canaan, sweet Canaan,
I’m bound for the land of Canaan.
Sweet Canaan, ’tis my happy home;
I am bound for the land of Canaan.

I’ll join with those who’ve gone before,
I am bound for the land of Canaan.
Where sin and sorrow are no more,
I am bound for the land of Canaan.

(Chorus)

And when my journey's finally over
When rest and peace upon me lie
High o'er the roads where once we travelled
Silently there my mind will fly
