Songs by Richard L. Matteson Jr.

Songs by Richard L. Matteson Jr.

I'm not a songwriter but I've written a few good songs. Writing songs is easy for me I'm just not acclimated to write songs. I'm dividing my songs up into categories; 1) Secular (Blues; Country; Old-time; Bluegrass) and 2) Religious. Fortuately, most of my songs have been recorded and two of them published.

My religious songs were written and copyrighted 2003 for my contemporary group, Stand on The Rock. All ten songs were written in a period of one week. I wrote several other hymns in the 1980s that were used the First Baptist Church of Beaufort services.

Many of my secular songs are based on traditional lyrics. Usually I'll augment the lyrics or add entirely new stanzas. Some of the songs were written for my students to demonstrate how to write songs. I wrote nearly a CD worth of material, most of the songs were recorded in the mid-1990s. I wrote most of the songs on True Blue- C 1988. There are a few odd songs that I haven't played much like "Christmas on the Moon" and some of my early songs, "Light of Love" and 'Follow the Lines" which I have no idea where they are- haha and haven't seen in 30 years. If I can find more I'll put them on.
