Boating Down the Mongol

ARTIST: Kenny Hall;

CATEGORY: Fiddle and Instrumental Tunes;

DATE: Early 1900’s.

RECORDING INFO: (According to Hall) Fiddlin’ John Carson’s Virginia Reelers; Earl Johnson and the Dixie Clodhoppers.

OTHER NAMES: Boating Down the Mongol;

SOURCES: Kenny Hall’s Music Book- Mel Bay.

NOTES: Not listed on internet sources or in Tony Russell or Gus Meade. Seems Kenny Hall was msitaken when he said, This was done by  Earl Johnson and the Dixie Clodhoppers, The Virginia Reelers did it too." Hall could have been referring to another song, maybe "Give The Fiddler a Dram" where the "give the fiddler a quarter" line is sometimes sung.

Perhaps the song is related to Boatin' Down the River; See:

BOATIN' DOWN THE MONGOL- Kenny Hall

Dancin’ on the river,
Boatin’ on the Mongol.
Doncha think ya oughter
Give the fiddler a quarter.

Doncha think ya oughter,
Cain’t ya dance the polker.
Doncha think ya oughter
Give the fiddler a quarter.

Doncha think ya oughter,
Cain’t ya change a dollar?
Doncha think ya oughter
Give the fiddler a quarter.
