Wexford Town- Mabel W. Tatro  (VT) 1930 Flanders F

[Three stanzas from recording in Helen Hartness Flanders Ballad Collection at Middlebury College Special Collections & Archives. Classification #: LAP35. Track 10d. Dated 11-12-1930.

The quality of the recording is poor. Inexplicably only three middle stanzas are sung - I assume the title comes from a missing stanza.

Wexford Town  - sung by Mabel Wilson Tatro at Springfield (Vt.). Classification #: LAP35. Dated 11-12-1930; sung to the melody of Old Lang Syne.

She fell upon her bended knees,
For mercy she did cry,
Oh Willie dear don't kill me here,
I'm not prepared to die.

I never minded what she said
But beat her all on the more;
He beat her 'til all the ground within,
Was all a bloody gore.

"Lie there lie there the Wexford maid
You'll never be my bride;
Lie there, lie there, the Wexford maid
You'll never to me be tied.
