Summary - In this song, a young man asks questions of a young girl he chances to meet, and learns where she lives, where she sleeps, and her age, which is "seventeen come Sunday". He asks if he can come to see her, with her letting him in so that her mother won't know of their meeting. She agrees, and their clandestine meeting is successful.

Mrs MacRobbie does not recall where she first heard the song. It was her father's song.

"Seventeen Come Sunday" sung by Agnes Murray MacRobbie (b. 1882) of Whauphill, Kirkinner; Wigtownshire.
Collected by Hamish Henderson in 1967.

Oh where are gaun my bonnie wee lass
Oh where are gaun my honey,
Modestly she answered me,
On an erran' for my mommie,
CHORUS With my gre-diddle da, touch de da
Cark fal la didle a do die, day.

What age are ye my bonnie wee lass
What age are you my honey,
She gave me a look and said to me,
I'm seventeen come Sunday,

Oh where do ye sleep my bonnie wee lass
Oh where do ye sleep my honey?
She answered me quite modestly
In a wee room next to mommie,

Will I come wi' you bonnie wee lass
Will I come wi' you my honey
She looked at me and said with glee,
Oh I durna for my mommie

Oh I'll come up my bonnie wee lass
When the moon shines bright and clear
And ye come open the door for me,
And your mommie shall not hear me.

Will ye marry me my you bonnie wee lass
Will ye marry me my honey [forgets]
