NOTES: A Major. Standard. AABB. Bayard collected a vocal version of the tune in southwestern Pa. (see Bayard, Dance to the Fiddle, 1981; Appendix No. 25, pgs. 582-583), but said it was known also as a dance tune. Hall thinks he learned “Dinah” from Doctor Humbead’s New Tranquility Stringband. (Kuntz, Fiddler's Companion, http://www.ceolas.org/tunes/fc). The lyrics are from the famous folk song, “I’ve Been Working On the Railroad.” For an additional set of lyrics see: "Go To Sleep, John Dinny.”

Someone’s in the kitchen with Dinah,
Someone’s in the kitchen I know.
Someone’s in the kitchen with Dinah,
Strummin’ on the old banjo.
