NOTES: Fiddlin' John Carson's song, "Christmas Time Will Soon Be Over" seems to be derived from the old African-American spiritual known under a variety of titles:

SOCIAL BAND (1865)

I want Aunty Mary for to go with me,
I want Aunty Mary for to go with me,
I want Aunty Mary for to go with me,
To join the Social Band.

I'M A-GOING TO JOIN THE BAND (1940- John Work)

Chorus:
I'm a going to join the band, Hallelujah!
I'm a going to join the band, Can't you sing it!
I'm a going to join the band, O Lord.
I'm a going to join the band.

The A strain resembles the old song, "Skip to My Lou" but may be derived from the spiritual also. A version of the song titled, "Christmas Time in the Morning," was recorded by Mississippi fiddler Stephen Tucker is 1939. Tucker's second part resembles "The Cuckoo's Nest" as played by Ed Haley.

Kuntz: "A Major ('A' part) & A Mixolydian ('B' part). Standard, AEAE or ADAE. AAB. A bluegrass song derivative of John Carson's is fiddler Tex Logan's "Christmas Time's a-Comin'", although the chorus seems based on the 'B' part of "Mississippi Sawyer."
