She traveled over rocks and great tall mountains,
Through the hills and valleys below,
Till she came to the Lonesome Valley;
There she found him dead in the snow.

She went back home and saw her brother,
She said, "You done a terrible thing.
I'm going tell the local sheriff,"
Now her brother's a-gonna hang.

He was her love before he was killed,
In the Lonesome Valley below,
But she's gone from this Lonesome Valley,
His body's buried six feet below.
